Cultural Research Project

                            Lincolnshire, England

The ancestors on my dad’s line came from England. Lincolnshire, England to be exact.  I have taken the time to do research on the Lincolnshire area of England. I have spent some of my time reading the journal of my Great-Great-Great Grandmother and looked through the Heathman Family Bible.  In addition, I have conducted some internet research by visiting various sites to learn about this area that has played a role in my family history.

Lincolnshire is an agricultural area. They grow wheat, barley, and sugar beets. Lincolnshire for the most part is a rural area. The pace of life is much slower than in other parts of the United Kingdom. Sunday is still a day of rest for this area. This is my favorite thing I learned about Lincolnshire. Lincolnshire isn’t diverse ethnically. Almost all of its population considers itself “white.” It does have a rich background of faith and religion. Many great people have come from this part of the world. Former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Leader of the settlement Jamestown, Virginia, Captain John Smith, theTranslator on the Committee for the King James Bible, Robert Tighe, and Protestant martyr Anne Askew.

I discovered that parts of Lincolnshire played a role in my surname. This part of The United Kingdom is known to have a few land formations called Heaths. The people that cared for these Heaths were known as the people of the Heaths or the “Man of the Heaths.” I learned this from the Heathman Family Bible and then researched it online.
